Product Description

GOLD’NSILV, composed 2002, is a solo flute piece based on borrowed motivic material from an earlier piece titled Rondo for solo trumpet. The title, GOLD’NSILV, relies on the combination-contraction of the words ‘gold’ and ‘silver,’ and refers to the specific flute used in the first performance which had a gold head joint and silver body.

GOLD’NSILV can be considered as a sonic narration about various emotional states and moods, reflecting the role of the chorus in the ancient Greek tragic plays. Its opening repetitious motive creates lyric, rather peaceful phrases of nostalgic character. The following subsections get progressively dramatic through a continuous transformation of the principal motive that gets exposed in the flute’s entire range. The last subsection can be observed as a reflex to the opening lyric gestures, it brings ‘catharsis’ and completion to the tragic monologue.
