Product Description

Brod's Complete Method for Oboe was published in two parts. Volume I was published in 1826 and Volume II, 1835. In addition to his oboe method, Brod composed several other works, still in use today, including several solo works with keyboard accompaniment, woodwind quintets and trios for oboe, bassoon and piano.

The great oboe teacher Georges Gillet, professor of oboe at the Paris Conservatoire from 1881-1919, used the Brod method along with those of Barret and Ferling in his classes. Since few dynamic or articulation markings were included by Brod, Gillet produced a new edition with his own markings.

The 20 Etudes contained in this publication are taken from volume two of Brod's Complete Method for Oboe. The sources used for this edition are the original publication from 1835 as well as Gillet's edition of 1895.

These etudes are the most widely used portion of the Brod method and have been published separately here for those not wishing to purchase the Complete Method. The base line has been omitted in this edition, but added as necessary to the soprano line and indicated with brackets.
