Lloyd Ultan (1929-1998), was Professor Emeritus of Composition/Theory and
Electronic/Computer Music at the University of Minnesota. He was the recipient of
numerous commissions, grants, fellowships, and awards (including a Rockefeller Foundation
Residency Fellowship and three residencies at the MacDowell Colony). In 1971, he was the
founder and, from 1971-1974, Director of the Composerís Residency Program at Wolf Trap
Farm Park. He composed over 60 works for a wide variety of genre including electronic
music, solo and chamber works, and compositions for voice. His works have been performed
and broadcast throughout the world.
