This solo for viola and piano is a suite of four
descriptive pieces composed in 2000. The movements are
based upon visual images of North Central New Mexico.
The first movement, 'Aguacero,' translated as
'cloudburst,' starts calmly but soon the scene is
interrupted by pizzicato raindrops and then a fast and
furious storm. Movement two, 'El Bosque de Jemez' (The
Jemez Forest), reflects on tall strands of pine trees on
the mountainside around Jemez. The third movement, 'La
Perrita Fanimal,' is an innocent interlude about a dog
belonging to the composer's sister. The final movement,
'Twisty Vista Tango,' represents the thrilling scenery
all around the canyons and mountains of New Mexico.
Duration: approx. 19 minutes.
