RANDALL DAVIDSON

Randall Davidson, former president of the American Composers Forum, is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading composer of his generation, with works performed by the San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival and many of the country’s leading choral ensembles. The Gloria commission, by Yale Summer Chorus 1992, was inspired by the Rodney King verdict in LA and the subsequent violence that took place there. Music of humor and passion are the hallmarks of Randall Davidson’s catalogue. His works have enjoyed hundreds of performances throughout the U.S. and Europe and have attracted the attention of critics, performers and audiences alike for their dramatic and accessible musical language. Mr. Davidson’s many successful collaborations are a testament to the appeal of his music and the regard other artists have for him. His partnership with Garrison Keillor has produced two successful large-scale works: The Young Lutheran’s Guide to the Orchestra and a humorous oratorio, The History of Evil: Bible Families. The “Guide” has received over 200 performances throughout the U.S. and Europe, two recordings (by the Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra), and a cablecast on the Disney Channel. The “History” (five soloists, theatre orchestra and full mixed chorus) has received productions in Colorado and Ohio and received its premiere with Plymouth Music Series of Minnesota.
