Alan Palider
Composer and bassoonist Alan Palider was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 13th, 1959.
In 1981 he received his bachelor's degree from DePaul University where he studied
composition with Phil Winsor. Self-taught, Mr. Palider began playing the bassoon in
November of 1982. Four months later he began studying with Burl Lane, contrabassoonist of
the Chicago Symphony. In 1985 Mr. Palider received his master's degree from Northwestern
University where he studied bassoon with Robert Barris. He is currently a freelance
bassoonist for the Michigan-Indiana area and the principal bassoonist of the Southwest
Michigan Symphony Orchestra and the Whiting Festival Symphony Orchestra. He is also the
assistant principal and 2nd bassoonist of the Indiana Symphony Orchestra and 2nd
bassoonist of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
